Our Philosophy

Our providers are inspired by Hippocrates, the “famous physician of Kos” and his timeless observations, values and teachings - the pillars of our practice. Our principles date back to the 4th century BC and the Corpus Hippocraticum, which has served as the seminal text on classical medicine for over 2,000 years, which applies, in certain ways, now more than ever. “The physician must investigate the entire patient, his diet and his environment,” wrote Hippocrates. “The best physician is the one who is able to prevent illness.” The writings of Hippocrates and his students, a remnant collection of sixty medical treatises that survived the burning of the Library of Alexandria inspired Sir William Osler’s teachings relating to the Great Physician, who now serves as the archetype of the Arête Ethos.

We believe there is a specific hierarchy to exceptional clinical care
, one that fundamentally begins by understanding and addressing effectively the complex relationship between a patient and their unique environment and lifestyle. It’s a discipline of addition through subtraction where less becomes more and “appropriate care (value)” is valued above “additional care (volume).”

We subscribe to the Oslerian tradition where the art of physicianship still exists in healthcare, and health is promoted by the assessment and management of the whole person. As Sir William Osler taught, “The good physician treats the disease; the great physician treats the patient who has the disease.”
